Here's some perspective on how the park appears right now. These pictures were taken right before the annual Easter egg hunt - so all the colors you see on the ground are Easter eggs! :)

Our Downey City Park Project
Downey, Idaho is looking to improve
our community by getting new playground equipment for our city park. We are
seeking help in these efforts. As you may know Downey is wonderful place to
raise children. Our current population sits at just over 600, with
approximately 150-200 of these being children. We are looking for a safe and
enjoyable place for these children and their parents to spend their time.
I have spoken with the City of
Downey and they would be willing to provide all of the labor and equipment
needed for the installation of the new playground equipment. However there is
no room in the current city budget to purchase the new playground equipment.
For this reason I am reaching out to you in hope you may be able to assist us
with this. The approximate cost to purchase the new playground equipment is
$25,000. As you can see we need a lot of help to reach this goal so any help is
appreciated.
Downey is an amazing community
filled with wonderful people. Families move to Downey because it’s a safe area
and they enjoy the small town feel. We try our best to do what we can for our
community, although sometimes it’s not an easy task. We have a lot of hard
working young families that do their best to provide for themselves and their
children, however most people are struggling like the rest of the country at
this time to make ends meet. It is hard to ask people like this for money when
they usually have to give all they have just to stay afloat. There are a few
businesses in town and they provide all they can when fundraisers come around
but there again they are to struggling to due to the current economic climate.
We do the best we can to generate funds for what we need but a task of this
size is a tall mountain to climb these days. Your funding would allow us to
speed up this project considerably.
Our city park is the epicenter of our community. It is host
to family reunions, baseball games, softball games, community events and celebrations
along with the town’s annual Easter egg hunt and our largest event, the South
Bannock County Fair. There is a large variety of people that use our park for
these different events but they always seem to leave dissatisfied with the
playground equipment we currently have. I personally know of many parents who
do not feel comfortable with their children on the current playground
equipment. In the hot summer months the one large metal slide we have gets so
hot that many children get burned while trying to play. When the playground is busy, children of all
ages seem to make their way to the merry-go-round. Most of the time this ends
with the younger children being stuck on the merry-go-round with the older
children, resulting in a lot of scraped knees and bruised elbows.
By
receiving this funding you would help make our city park a safer and more
enjoyable place for families to spend time together for years to come. This
could help us get this project accomplished in months rather than years. Thank
you for your time and consideration in this matter.
